How to Save a WhatsApp Chat as a PDF Record (for Disputes, Landlords or Court)

Need a readable record of a WhatsApp conversation, with names, dates and times on every message? Here's how to make one on iPhone.

Steps

1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and open the chat you want to keep.
2. Tap the contact or group name at the top of the chat.
3. Scroll down and tap Export Chat, then choose Without Media.
4. In the share sheet, pick ChatExport (tap More if you don't see it).
5. Pick PDF and tap Print. Every message keeps its sender, date and time. Save it from the print screen or print it on paper.

Why not just use WhatsApp's export?

WhatsApp's Export Chat gives you a raw .txt file (or a .zip) that's hard to read and can't be printed nicely. ChatExport turns it into a clean PDF file with dates, names and messages laid out properly.

Will it be accepted as evidence?

That depends on your court or organisation, and we can't give legal advice. Many people are asked for the original export too, so keep the file WhatsApp gives you in step 4 alongside the PDF.

Is it private?

Yes. The conversion runs on your iPhone. Your messages are not uploaded to our servers.
