How to Export a Facebook Messenger Chat to PDF or Text on iPhone

Facebook lets you download your Messenger history as data files. ChatExport turns one of those files into a clean PDF, text or spreadsheet.

Steps

1. In the Facebook app, open Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
2. Choose Messages only, set the format to JSON, and request the download. Facebook emails you when it's ready.
3. Download the file on your iPhone, open it in the Files app and tap it to unzip.
4. Open messages → inbox → the folder for the person, and share message_1.json to ChatExport.
5. Pick PDF, Text or CSV and save it.

A chat is missing from the download?

End-to-end encrypted Messenger chats can be left out of the standard download. Check Messenger's privacy settings for its separate option to download encrypted chats.

Is it private?

Yes. The conversion runs on your iPhone. Your messages are not uploaded to our servers.
